Golf miniature siteSTIG BLOMQVIST CELEBRATES AN ANNIVERSARY DURING THE VRF

The Safari Rally is without doubt the most difficult rally of the World Rally Championship. Volkswagen wanted to record this event on its table in the late 1980s.

The Wolfsburg team counted on favorable weight and simplicity, two advantages of the 16-valve Golf that should allow VW to conquer the title versus All-Wheel Drive and the Lancia Delta at the very first. When the two cars of Erwin WEBER and Lars-Erik TORPH retired in 1988, Stig BLOMQVIST, who had replaced TORPH in the team, landed on the podium, despite losing an entire hour to repair the drive. That was exactly 30 years ago !

For Stig BLOMQVIST the Vosges Rallye Festival is a good occasion to celebrate this anniversary. In order to do that, he has accepted an invitation of Wolf-Dieter IHLE. The friendly German driver and collector has owned for several years the factory Golf with which Lars-Erik TORPH participated in the Safari Rally in 1988. Currently, the original configuration will be restored, and the Vosges Rallye Festival will be the first re-exit of this car.
